THE PARADOX OF EDUCATION
By Samando Scott
For his portfolio assignment, Samando chose Toyin Ojih Odutola’s 2013 artwork "The Paradox of Education," featured at the Studio Museum in Harlem. This piece was referenced in James Baldwin’s 1963 “A Talk to Teachers,” which states, “The paradox of education is precisely this – that as one begins to become conscious, one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”
Samando managed the entire project, including makeup and props, to authentically replicate the original work. His effort received recognition from Toyin Ojih Odutola on social media.
